As a result of screening 380 strains of Staphylococcus spp. isolated from the nasal cavity for growth inhibition of MRSA, two strains were shown to inhibit the growth of MRSA. The biochemical properties of these strains were investigated. The API codes of the strains were 266022210 and 166032210, and both were identified to be S.epidermidis. Both strains showed alkaline phosphatase and α-glucosidase activities, but no constitutive enzymes specific to MRSA growth-inhibiting bacteria were detected. In a susceptibility test of 15 drugs for MRSA growth-inhibiting bacteria, neither bacterium showed marked resistance to any of the drugs, showing that these MRSA growth-inhibiting bacteria are not resistant strains. MRSA was inoculated into the filtrate of the MRSA growth-inhibiting bacteria, and the time-course MRSA counts largely differed depending on the inoculation count, and the filtrate of the MRSA growth-inhibiting bacteria had antibacterial effects on MRSA at low bacteria concentration. |
