群飼牛の肥育前期及び中期における血清レプチン濃度と生理・気質・行動的特性及び生産形質との関連を検討した。6～10ヵ月齢で導入した黒毛和種×ホルスタイン種の去勢雄牛3群計35頭を供試した。肥育前期(導入1, 3, 5カ月後)と中期(7, 9, 11カ月後)に隔月で,採血(12項目),気質評定(4項目)及び行動観察(15項目)を実施し,それに体重と社会的順位を加えた33項目を解析した。レプチン濃度は,肥育期の進行に伴い増加し,前期(4.5±1.8ng/ml HE)と中期(6.8±2.4ng/ml HE)の濃度差は有意(P<0.001)であった。レプチン濃度とビタミンA(r=0.38,P<0.05)及び総コレステロール濃度(r=0.30,P<0.10),採血時(r=0.37,P<0.05)及び超音波測定時(r=0.29,P<0.10)気質スコア,相互身繕い(r=0.30,P<0.10)及び施設利用身繕い行動(r=-0.30,P<0.10)との間に相関がみられた。以上の結果から,レプチンは牛においても,脂肪蓄積に加え,情動行動や慰安行動に対しても作用している可能性が示唆された。 |

The objective of this study was to determine the interrelationships of serum leptin concentrations and other physiological parameters, temperament, behavioral characteristics and productive traits of beef cattle. Thirty-five crossbred (Japanese Black X Holstein) steers introduced (transported) to a farm at 6-10 mo of age were used. Serum and plasma samples from the jugular vein (concentrations of 7 hormones and 5 metabolites), temperament scores at 4 different handling contexts, and behavioral observations (15 behavioral categories) were collected bimonthly during the growing (1, 3, 5 mo after introduction) and fattening (7, 9, 11 mo after introduction) periods. Body weight and social rank were also analyzed. Leptin concentration significantly (P<0.001) increased from the growing period (4.5±1.8ng/ml HE) to the fattening period (6.8±2.4ng/ml HE). Leptin concentration tended to be correlated with concentrations of vitamin A (r=0.38, P<0.05) and total cholesterol (r=0.30, P<0.10), temperament scores at blood sampling (r=0.37, P<0.05) and ultrasound recording (r=0.29, P<0.10), and the frequency of mutual (r=0.30, P<0.10) and fixture-using (r=-0.30, P<0.10) grooming behaviors. It was suggested that leptin likely related to the expression of emotional and affiliative behaviors as well as fat deposition. |
