内容記述 | Samuel Beckett's first poem, 'Whoroscope', was written in 1930. The theme of this work was "time". Beckett adopted a style in which he made Descartes talk about the end of his life and historical events of his age. Poetical imagery is recognized in his first poem, which is the base of Beckett's view of the world. An egg, a foetus, a heart and blood, life and death, decomposition and generation, those are the representative imagery which are directly related with human being. This is the essence of Beckett's world of imagination and his style of expression. Goethe's vulture means a symbol of progressive imagination of Romanticism. But Beckett's vulture means regression of imagination. What constitutes his poetry is precipitation of words. Although Beckett's poetries are radical and regarded as surrealistic ones, prose fiction is rather poetical. Molloy's narration or monological words of other works possess a kind of lyricism. Negative lyricism is composed by precipitation of words which emphasize human being suffered from melancholy of life. For Beckett, the act of writing is the condition of existence of a man who is obliged to write, knowing the impossibility of expression. |
