Dr. Mitsuko Masui, a great veterinarian and an influential zoo leader who graduated from AzabuUniversity, passed away in July, 2010. She leaves behind many accomplishments, the fruits of her activities at zoological gardens. A memorial service was held at the campus festival in 2010 by the alumni association of Azabu University. In August, 2011, a collection of memorabilia and documents of Dr. Masui were donated to Azabu University. Following receipt of these, a memorial exhibition was held. The exhibition was composed of five corners. Corner 1 displayed Dr. Masui’s pre-Azabu University period. Corner 2 showed items related to her studies at Azabu University. Corner 3 exhibited items connected with Dr. Masui’s tenure at Ueno Zoo, where she began her career as a zoo veterinarian. Corner 4 exhibited items connected with her work at other zoos. She became a well-renowned zoologist and worked as the curator of several zoos. Corner 5 exhibited a part of her collections and explained what she wished. Besides the exhibition, we published a publication in her memory bearing the same title. |
