The university also received grants from the MEXT for the period from 2016 to 2019. The theme of the project was‘Developing the Science of Human–Animal Sym¬biosis to Realize a Healthy Human Society’. As the Public Relations Supervisor of this project, the author has been promoting science communication activities related to the science of human–animal symbiosis. In addition to typical public relations activities, various events, such as science cafes, panel exhibitions and open laboratory, were held. In addition, we published a book about our research activities entitled Invitation to Science of Human– Animal Symbiosis in 2020. This paper reports on the outline of these activities with a focus on the science cafes and panel exhibitions. The results of the questionnaire survey on the participants and visitors of the events dem-onstrate that the various types of science communication activities were successful. However, the recognition of the general public of the science of human–animal symbiosis remains limited. Moreover, the activities reported in this study only form part of the definition of science communication in broad sense. In particular, panel ex-hibitions are an indirect encounter between the researchers and the participants, such that several mechanisms for facilitating communication became necessary. By learning from our experiences during the abovementioned timeframe, we hope to continue our effort to promote science communication through various channels.
