<dc:description>The area of rice paddies in Japan has been decreasing since 1975. In this study, We researched the inhabitation of frogs, Japanese rice fish, diving beetles, and Intermediate Egret and their relationship with the decrease of the area of rice paddles. For the spices’ inhabitation, We studied each Prefectural Red Data Book and the Red List (RDB). We constructed two indicators; the increase-decrease rate (＝ the area of rice paddies in 2000 ÷ that of 1950 × 100 ％) and the listed rate in RDB (＝ number of prefectures in which the species are listed ÷ number of prefectures in which the species are distributed × 100 ％). Then we studied the relationship between them. The correlation coefficients of these two indicators for frogs, Japanese rice fish, and diving beetles are － 0.406, － 0.367, and － 0.338, showing low correlation. The correlation coefficient for the Intermediate Egret is － 0.026, showing no correlativity. Prefectural RDBs offer useful data for gaining an understanding of the conditions of spices populating rice paddies, but, as the method of evaluation differs by prefecture, it is difficult to make comparisons of RDB data across the prefectures.</dc:description>
